About this campsite
Maximum number of people is 30.
Set amongst remains of timber milling, kauri logging and whaling history, The Green is the smallest DOC campground on the island.

There are no public bins on Great Barrier Island/Aotea - take orange official council rubbish bags (available from local shops (prices vary) or the Auckland Council Service Centre) to drop off for free at Claris Landfill.

The DOC Campsite Pass can be used at this campsite.
Campsite Pass bookings must be booked online before occupying a site. If you do not book, bookings may be made by campground staff (if present) and will incur a $10 service charge. Sites may not be available if you do not book.
Bookings
Bookings are open for stays up to 30 June 2027.
- If no availability shows online for your dates, the campsite is fully booked.
- No spaces are kept for campers arriving without a booking.
- Phone and in‑person bookings made at a visitor centre incur a $10 service fee.
- Same‑day bookings are available online until 8 pm if spaces remain.

Getting there
In the Whangaparapara Harbour, Great Barrier Island.
Passenger and vehicle ferry to Tryphena or Port FitzRoy. Air travel to Claris or Okiwi. Rental cars available for hire at Tryphena and Claris by arrangement.
It is a ten-minute walk to the campground from the end of Whangaparapara Road across the DOC reserve.
Access: Gravel road leading out of Whangaparapara. There is no drive on access to the campsite.

Know before you go
- Bring your own cooker or gas BBQ.
- Vehicle access to beach is not permitted.
Rubbish
This campground is Pack In Pack Out. There are no rubbish or recycling facilities. Council rubbish bags and clean recycling are accepted for free at the Claris landfill. See Great Barrier Island Claris landfill for opening hours.
Behaviour and alcohol
You'll be asked to leave if you behave in a disorderly or offensive way, eg excessive alcohol, using foul language, noisy or riotous. Drinking in public and the public display of alcohol are not permitted.
In the area
North of here is the entry to the track network and Forest Road (closed to vehicles), with foot access to the hot springs and Port FitzRoy to the north.
Nearby Whangaparapara has a wharf and small community. The harbour and coastline are good for fishing and kayaking.
