Reporting a problem

In the app, go to User > Report a problem. Describe what happened, then share the report by email. It includes a short technical history that helps me find the cause, and never your location or your tracks. See the privacy policy for exactly what it contains.

Offline maps

An overview map of all of New Zealand downloads with the app. The full 1:50,000 topo map comes in regions, which you can manage in User > Settings > Offline Maps. Downloads come from Apple and need a network connection and some free space. Once a region is downloaded, the map works with no signal.

Trig Plus

Trig Plus is an optional monthly or yearly subscription with a two-week free trial. The Trig Plus screen in the app (User > Trig Plus) lists what it includes. Browsing maps, tracks, huts, campsites and mountains stays free.

Restoring a purchase: User > Trig Plus > Restore Purchases, signed in with the Apple Account you subscribed with.
Cancelling: Settings > your name > Subscriptions on your iPhone, or Manage Subscription on the Trig Plus screen. Cancel at least a day before the renewal date.
Refunds: Apple handles payments, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Family Sharing: Plus can be shared with your Family Sharing group. Only Plus access is shared, never your tracks or waypoints.

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch app is part of Trig Plus and needs a paired iPhone with Trig installed. Recordings started on either device show on both.

iCloud sync

Tracks, routes, waypoints and trips sync between your devices through your private iCloud storage when iCloud is on and you are signed in to the same Apple Account. Sync can take a few minutes, and needs a connection on both devices.

Your data

User > Export my data saves a copy of everything you have created, with or without Plus. Deleting the app removes its data from that device, but not from iCloud or Apple Health.

Staying safe

Trig is a planning and navigation aid, not an official source. Track conditions, closures and weather change. Check DOC alerts and MetService forecasts before you go, tell someone your plans, and carry a personal locator beacon. In an emergency, call 111 in New Zealand or 000 in Australia.
