Description
Waitaha Pā offers visitors a peaceful and scenic taste of New Zealand’s natural beauty and Māori heritage.
The walk to the pā is steep but short and along the way, you’ll enjoy glimpses of the Whanganui River before reaching a picnic table and lookout with panoramic views of the river valley and surrounding hills.
It's a perfect spot for a quiet break, a photo opportunity, or simply to soak in the history and landscape of this culturally significant site.
Getting there
Waitaha Pā is located between Whanganui and the village of Upokongaro, around 3.5 km from the Whanganui boundary, on State Highway 4.
There is a large DOC sign indicating the Waitaha Pā.
