Dromedary Hill Track

Access to Dromedary Hill is through a public access easement through private farmland. The track is lightly marked along the valley floor, then climbs on a well formed track to Dromedary Hill (1664 m). On a fine day you can see Mt Barth to the north in Ahuriri Conservation Park.

Mountain biking

This trip makes a great half-day mountain bike ride. You may need to push your bike for a short stretch on rougher track near the summit but the effort is well worth it.

This is a shared-use track. Follow the mountain bikers code: respect others, respect the rules, respect the track.

Horse riding

Ride as far as you want on this trip. The track gets rocky and slightly rougher near Dromedary Hill summit.

This track is located on SH8, 23 km south of Omarama. There is a signposted car park near Dalrachney Road Bridge.

Private property and permissions

This track crosses private land. There is no camping until the conservation area boundary.

Respect the landowner's livestock and property:

• Stay on the marked track until you reach the conservation land
• Leave gates as you find them
• Use stiles where provided
• Keep your distance from livestock.

Dogs

You need permission from the Makarora River Ranch to take your dog into Hāwea Conservation Park using Boundary Creek Track. Email makaroraranch@gmail.com at least 24 hours in advance of your visit to request permission. You must provide a valid worming certificate to ensure your dog is free from hydatids and sheep measles.
