Description

Starting from Booms Flat Campsite in the Kauaeranga Valley, the Booms Tramping Track climbs steadily uphill. After about an hour you'll reach a stand of impressive kauri trees, making a great destination for a shorter return walk.

To continue on, follow the track for another 6 km to the Karaka Track junction. From there, it's about a further 30 min to Crosbies Hut. Alternatively, you can follow the Karaka Track for around 4.5 hr down to Thames.

Getting there

From Thames, head east along the Kauaeranga Valley road to Booms Flat Campsite which is 6 km past the DOC visitor centre.

Booms Tramping Track starts from inside Booms Flat Campsite, and parking is available at the campsite.

Know before you go

The track is steep in places and maybe slippery and muddy when wet.

It is a challenging track that requires a reasonable/advanced level of fitness.
