- Perched on the top of Panitahi high on the slopes of Taranaki Maunga, Syme Hut is arguably the best overnight spot in Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki. On fine days you can enjoy spectacular views of the Taranaki region followed by stunning sunsets.

Getting there
Dawson Falls Visitor Centre to Syme Hut is around 5 to 6 hours long for a return trip. This follows the Fanthams Peak Track.

Know before you go
This hut is situated at 1,940 m on Panitahi, formerly Fanthams Peak. During winter conditions, you'll need alpine climbing experience and suitable equipment to reach this hut. Check with the North Taranaki Visitor Centre for current conditions.
