Getting there
Mungo Hut is usually accessed from the West Coast side via the Toaroha valley and Toaroha Saddle. Take the track from Poet Hut to Toaroha Saddle as far as Beta Creek. Once over Beta Creek instead of taking the track to the Saddle, follow a marked route sidling upstream to Saddle Creek.
Drop down to the creek and follow the route down to the Mungo riverbed. From here it is mostly riverbed travel to the hut. The track entrance to Mungo Hut is 100m above the junction of Park Stream and Mungo River. A short steep section of track leads up the ridge to the hut.
