About this hut
The hut is at around 700 m altitude near the Upper Mataura Valley River.
Getting there
The hut is 20 km from Fairlight. Drive down Cainard Rd until you reach the 4WD access. At certain times of the year the gates may be locked due to fire rules and regulations so may need to call Mataura Valley Station (03 4485948) to gain access.
Cowshed Hut is 4 km from Beech Hut.
This is a backcountry hut with no DOC track access. You will need to plan your route and navigate yourself, using aids like a map, compass and GPS. Learn navigation skills.
