About this hunting block
Possums, goats and pigs are hunted in the Whitecliffs Conservation Area. High sandstone cliffs feature in this area.
Goats and pigs are present in this reserve. Due to its proximity to New Plymouth Whitecliffs gets moderate usage from hunters.
General information
This 509 ha semi coastal forest features steep ridges and sandstone bluffs, with karaka, pūriri and tawa the dominant tree species.
The threatened species pingau, king fern and New Zealand falcon and kiwi can be found in the area.
The Whitecliffs Conservation Area used to include a large block to the south which is now administered by Ngati Tama. Hunting is not permitted on their land without first obtaining consent.
Access
Access is via SH3 at Ahititi or by agreement with adjoining owners.
Landholders
Permission to access Whitecliffs Conservation Area via private land must be gained by arrangements with adjoining landholders. Access may be restricted at the owners discretion during lambing between 1 August and 31 October.

Huts
There are no DOC huts in this reserve.
Dogs
Dogs are prohibited except where authorisation has been granted by DOC. People wishing to take a dog into this area need to get a permit from the local DOC office and have a current kiwi aversion certificate.
Avian awareness and avoidance training
To take dogs across private property, or tracks crossing farmland, you must get permission from the landowner.
