About this hunting block
Hunting opportunities in Whanganui National Park (Atene to Ranana), Pitangi Scenic Reserve, and Ohutu and Koriniti conservation areas includes pigs, goats and low numbers of fallow deer.
Includes: Whanganui National Park from Atene to Ranana, Pitangi Scenic Reserve and Ohotu and Koriniti Conservation Areas
High numbers of goats, low to medium numbers of fallow deer, red deer and pigs.
Special restrictions:
- No hunting on or within 50 metres of the Atene Track.
- No hunting in the Ahuahu Valley.
General information
Whanganui National Park is one of the largest remaining areas of lowland forest in the North Island. The topography of the park is moderate to steep with deep gorges, sheer papa bluffs and waterfalls.
Access
The main access points are;
- By boat from various points along the Whanganui River. Jetboat operators on the river can provide a drop off and pick up service to tramping tracks and hunting grounds.
