This 1,000 ha block is located 40 km north of Christchurch between Rangiora, Loburn and Amberley. Pigs and red deer are present.

This 1,000 ha block is located 40 km north of Christchurch between Rangiora, Loburn and Amberley.

Your hunting permit only covers public conservation land as shown on the hunting block map.

The terrain is mostly moderate.

The vegetation is predominantly beech forest with some scrub and tussock near the tops.

Pigs and red deer are present in low to moderate numbers.

Other hunters and trampers may be encountered anywhere, anytime. Take precautions and identify your target.

Access to the area is via Douglas Road near Amberley to Cramptons Bush Road into Ashley Forest.

Access via the private forestry roads and hunting is not permitted in any of commercial forests.

Landholder permission to the DOC hunting block is not required but public access may be closed in times of high fire danger, windfall or during logging operations. In these instances the forest gate on Cramptons Bush Road will be locked with signage advising the public access to Mt Grey/Maukatere is closed.

Dogs must be kept under control and not used for hunting until well within the DOC hunting area.

There are no huts in the Mount Grey hunting area.

Possum trapping using leg-hold traps is taking place in this area. This activity is allowed by permit only. Leg-hold possum traps must be a minimum of 50 m from the track.
