About this hunting block
You can hunt red deer and pigs in the Waikoau Forest Conservation Area.
The Waikoau Forest area is comprised of two areas totalling 234 ha. One area is to the east of the Waikōau River and the other area is to the west of the Hump Burn. Both these areas are adjacent to public walking tracks, no hunting is permitted within 500 m of huts or tracks.
Access
Both areas can be accessed by following the Papatotara Coast Road, parking at Rarakau car park and then by foot along the South Coast Track.

Dogs
- Dogs must be registered and are not permitted in huts.
- When crossing private land, dogs are to be on a leash until well into forest and kept under control.
- DOC must be notified regarding missing or lost dogs on conservation land.
Huts
There are no DOC huts available.
Additional information
If possuming, a permit must be obtained by visiting the DOC Murihiku Office in Invercargill.
