A permit is required to hunt on public conservation land.
This hunting area is covered by an 'open area permit' – get it online.
- No hunting within a 1 km radius of the Mavora Lakes from 20 December to 31 January or public holidays.
- No dogs 1 September to 30 November.

About this hunting block
You can hunt red deer, fallow deer, chamois and pigs in the Snowdon Forest, Mount Prospect and Margin Forest Conservation Areas.
Snowdon Forest is a picturesque area with open, grassed valleys, easy contour and rolling beech forest.
Access
Public access to the Snowdon Forest Conservation Area is signposted from the Mavora Lakes Road near Hikuraki Station and at Boyd Creek along the Te Anau/Milford Road near Te Anau Downs Station. Permission for access across all other farm land/private land must be obtained from landowners.

- Dale Farm (Landcorp)
- Eweburn Station (Landcorp)
- Haycocks Station (Landcorp)

Dogs
Permits are required to hunt with dogs in the Snowdon Forest, Mount Prospect and Margin Forest Conservation Areas. See a map of the dog access area (PDF, 861K)
You can get permits from the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre in Te Anau or Murihiku/Invercargill office.
- Dogs must be registered and are not permitted in huts.
- Dogs are allowed in the Snowdon Forest for most of the year, except during the lambing and calving period, 1 September to 30 November
- When crossing private land, dogs are to be on a leash until well into forest and kept under control.
- DOC must be notified regarding missing or lost dogs on conservation land.

Additional information
If possuming, a permit must be obtained by visiting either the DOC office in Murihiku/Invercargill or Te Anau.
