- Camp amongst the kānuka forest just off SH7 between Hanmer Springs and Lewis Pass. Boyle Campsite is on the Te Araroa Trail and at the end of the five-day tramp on the St James Walkway.

About this campsite
This is part of the Te Araora Trail.
Convenient overnight camping for those walking the St James Walkway and Te Araroa, or stay and explore surrounding beech forests and Boyle River.
The campsite has separate areas for up to six vehicles/campervans and an enclosure (no vehicle access) for tents.
The adjacent Boyle River Outdoor Education Centre offers a drop off service for tramping, but must be booked in advance.

Te Araroa – The Trail Pass
Te Araroa Trail walkers should register and purchase the Te Araroa Trail Pass.
Bookings
Bookings are open for stays up to 30 June 2027.
- If no availability shows online for your dates, the campsite is fully booked.
- No spaces are kept for campers arriving without a booking.
- Phone and in‑person bookings made at a visitor centre incur a $10 service fee.
- Same‑day bookings are available online until 8 pm if spaces remain.
Getting there
Located on SH7, between Springs Junction (37 km west of the campsite) and Hanmer Springs turnoff (45 km east of the campsite).

Know before you go
Boyle village does not have any shops or public amenities. Springs Junction or Hanmer Springs are the closest locations for supplies or petrol.
In the area
Great central location to explore the surrounding public conservation lands of Lewis Park Scenic Reserve, St James Conservation Area, Lake Sumner Forest Park and the Poplars and Nina Doubtful Rivers Conservation Areas.
Numerous rivers nearby for fishing and swimming.
The site is halfway between Hanmer Springs and Mariua Springs which both have public hot pools.
Dogs are permitted in the campsite and immediate surrounds but not in St James Conservation Area, Lewis Pass Scenic Reserve or Lake Sumner Forest Park.
